Embossed Business Cards

Embossed business cards are among the most elegant and impressive business cards that we are able to produce. They are characterized by a pattern that is actually pressed into the paper. This pattern is 3-dimensional and may or may not have any ink on it. There are other effects that offer dimension that can be felt, but none of them achieve that in the absence ink. Embossed business cards are truly and we are proud to manufacture them locally in NYC.

Creating embossed business cards requires a lot of labor and skill. The process starts by machining solid metal plates with the desired pattern on them. These plates – referred to metal dies – have a male and female side that have inverted patterns which fit securely together when stacked. Next, the metal plates are arranged in such a manner that they align properly with sheets of paper that already have the business card information printed on them. Finally, the sheets stamped one by one between the male and female dies, resulting in the pattern described above being placed in the correct position on the business cards. From there, the sheets still need to be cut down to business cards, but that step isn’t specific to embossing, so we’ll skip it.

Embossed business cards are really interesting because they look like the paper was specifically made for use with the individuals business card. All other printing methods clearly illustrate that ink was applied to the paper in a manner that was intended. But embossing makes it look like the paper started with the logo, and ink was added after the fact. This has the effect of making the paper look as though it was customer made.

For the many facets that make embossed business cards highly appealing, there are also some limitations. The first and most common one is that the pressed pattern is visible from the back of the business cards. That means that you cannot print double sided business cards without mounting an additional sheet of paper to the back of the card.

Another key limitation of embossed business cards are the time and cost. Although we strive to be as competitive as possible, the reality is that there is a lot of work that goes into these business cards. The turnaround time is normally 2 weeks for embossing. The cost can vary widely, so its a good idea to contact us for a customized quote.
