Invitation Design Tips

Even something as simple sounding as an invitation needs attention to detail and careful planning, especially if you want something that is unforgettable. An event’s invitation should not only set the overall mood and feel of the event, but it should also be enticing. When your invitees receive that invitation, it will be their first interaction with the event, giving them a taste of what’s to come. Invitation design is a crucial aspect of event planning, but luckily, this part of the process can be fun. Especially if you keep in mind some of these helpful invitation design tips.

Don’t Overlook Paper Stock

There are a multitude of specialty paper stocks out there to choose from, so don’t take this choice lightly. The paper you choose is the foundation of your invitation, after all. The look and feel of the paper can entice a person’s senses and can make your event appear more elegant if that’s what you’re going for.

Think About the Shape

While invitations are generally rectangular in shape and are about as big as a postcard, they don’t always have to follow this trend. Laser cut invitations can range from simple to intricate, since the sky is the limit in regards to the shapes and details you can achieve with this method.

Don’t Be Afraid to Get Personal

If you are talented artistically or have great handwriting, don’t be afraid to add a few personal touches to your invitation. Personal accents can go a long way in helping your invitation design stand out from the rest. Just make sure you leave room to do so when you are getting your invites printed.

Add Some Texture

If you have a subtle, minimalistic design, you may want to add some dimension to your invitation to give it that additional wow factor. Incorporating letterpress, embossing, or debossing is a great way to enhance a minimal design since it appeals to the senses.

Choose Your Font(s) Wisely

Choosing the wrong font can negatively impact the overall look and feel of your invitation. For instance, if you are planning on having an elegant party, your font should not be whimsical. Also, keep your selection of fonts to a minimum of one or two fonts. Choosing a serif and a sans-serif font is always a good way to help ensure a balanced design.
